Selecting Your little fuzzball
When selecting your first hamster, there are a couple of things you need to know. First, look at all the possible selections for a hamster, and then ask to hold a hamster that you like. When holding it, look at its ears. If there is hair in its ears, then it is probably old. Also let it run around to see how phsical it is. You don't want a lazy hamster!!! Note that Dwarf hamsters tend to be more vicious then other types of hamsters. I personally prefer dwarf hamsters, mainly becuase that it seems that dwarf hamsters are awake more than other hamsters. Remember all this and you should select a perfect pet!!

  enviroment
Your hamster needs a good enviroment to live in. For cage selection, the general best kind of cage is the one that has two storys, with stairs that lead up to the second story. Another great kind of cage is the kind that comes with a built in wheel and a few small tubes. generally you can get any kind of cage as long as it fits a wheel, food bowl, and water tube. DO NOT have a water bowl. First, they can drown in them. Second, they may dephicate in them and then drink it, which can make them very sick. Other than already mentioned items, you must put woodchips in the cage so they can create a bed. You might also want to buy some small stuff like a hamster house or hamster bed, and some logs for your hamster to climb on. Every now and then you should give your hamster a treat. For treats, I generally give them honey bars. For bedding, I generally get bed fluff. Bed fluff CAN be dangerous to hamsters health, but i found that the relaxation a hamster gets when sleeping in fluff is well worth the risk. This is how you should make your hamster's enviroment.

Food
Feeding a hamster is generally simple. You can feed them nuts, seeds, bread, and they can eat meat, I have no idea if it can hurt their health. The best thing to feed them is the food that you find for hamsters in pet stores. It gives them all the nutrients they need, and you don't need to worry about what to feed them. AT LEAST once a week you should feed them vegetables or fruits, and if you feed them lettuce, make sure it is romane lettuce. This is all you need to know when deciding what to feed your hamster.

Playing and taming
To start off, DO NOT take a hamster out of its cage unless it has been in THAT CAGE for at least three days. After three days, you can start taming your hamster. To tame your hamster, just gently stroke your hamster and say its name at the same time, and in a few days, it should respond when its name is called. I only know one trick you can teach your hamster. Its the two legged stand. Get a sunflower seed. Then, put it just above the hamster's reach, forcing it to stand up if it wants the food. it should stand. After a week or two, every time you just put your hand up above your hamster's head, it should stand up. This is a fun thing to show your friends! :)
